We put those four words on our website for a reason.
“Questionable taste” probably explains itself. There’s a dinosaur nativity involved. Nobody’s pretending we’re a sensible operation.
But the first two words deserve a little attention.
Original clothing.
Because whether you love our designs, hate them, or think somebody should take my laptop away, they’re ours.
And you won’t find them for sale anywhere else.
You Don’t Have to Like It
Some of our designs will make you laugh. Some might make you roll your eyes. Others might have you wondering who the fuck would wear that in public.
Hopefully, someone with somewhere interesting to be.
Taste is personal. I’m perfectly comfortable with that.
I don’t expect the person buying a feminist statement hoodie to want a Christmas sweatshirt featuring a particularly questionable religious scene. Although if you’re that person, I suspect we’d get along.
The range reflects different parts of my humour, interests and outlook. Gym life. Dogs. History. Women who refuse to be quiet. The occasional thought that probably should have stayed inside my head.
There’s a person behind those choices.
And yes, I accept full responsibility.
Familiar References. Our Own Take.
You’ll recognise some of the things that inspire us.
History, art, mythology, popular culture and everyday absurdity are a fairly generous supply cupboard.
Sometimes the idea starts with a familiar phrase. Sometimes it’s a scene that needs a completely inappropriate twist. Sometimes two unrelated thoughts collide while I’m walking the dogs, and suddenly Judas needs a chalkboard.
The interesting part is what we do with the reference.
The joke. The composition. The wording. The detail that makes you look twice.
That’s where a TwM design takes shape.
The reference might be familiar. The finished design is ours.
A Small Brand Should Have a Personality
One of the freedoms of running a small independent clothing brand is being able to follow an idea because you think it deserves to exist.
Even a ridiculous one.
There’s no committee asking whether a joke will appeal to every possible customer. There’s me, looking at something and deciding whether I’d be happy putting The Wandering Manc name underneath it.
That freedom matters.
It means we can make something outspoken, strange, funny or occasionally quite beautiful without needing the whole range to please the same person.
Over time, I want people to recognise that character.
To see a design and think, “That looks like something The Wandering Manc would do.”
Possibly followed by, “What the fuck is wrong with him?”
I’ll take both.
Something You Found Here
When you buy one of our designs, you’re choosing something from this little corner of the internet.
You aren’t buying a design we’ve picked from a supplier’s catalogue and listed alongside a hundred other shops selling the same artwork.
Our fulfilment partners make and deliver the garments. The designs you come here for belong to the TwM range.
That’s an important distinction.
It means there’s a reason to come back. A reason to remember where you found that sweatshirt. A reason to send a mate our way when they ask where you got it.
And for a small brand trying to build something lasting, that matters far more than filling a website with things you’ve already seen everywhere else.
We’ll Stand Behind the Taste
I’m proud of what we’re making.
That doesn’t mean every design will be a bestseller. Some ideas will find their people immediately. Others might sit there waiting for the three individuals whose brains work in precisely the required way.
But I’d rather give an idea with some personality a chance.
There’s satisfaction in taking a thought, working on it and turning it into something somebody chooses to wear.
Especially when they get the joke without needing it explained.
Or when a statement says exactly what they’ve been wanting to say.
That connection is the point.

Looking through the Christmas range, I can hardly argue that you lack supporting evidence.
But the designs are ours, and The Wandering Manc is where you’ll find them.
